Wendover Manor celebrates its heritage with a commemorative stone-laying ceremony

We recently marked an important milestone in the development of Wendover Manor, our new care home in Wendover, with a special ceremony celebrating the site's past and its future. Peter Evans, our Chief Executive Officer, and Grace Holland, our Managing Director, joined representatives from Lifebuild, Scurr Architects and Aedifice to lay two commemorative stones into the brickwork at the building's entrance.

Connecting Wendover Manor’s past and future

The ceremony brought together two important pieces of the site’s history.

The first stone dates back to August 1867 and bears the initials MSC. It is believed to be the only surviving piece of the original Victorian building, which later became Mid Bucks Nursing Home and Chiltern Court Care Home.

The meaning of the initials remains a mystery, and we’d love to hear from local historians or anyone who might be able to shed light on their story.

Alongside it, we placed a new stone inscribed Salveo Care 2026, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the site as Wendover Manor takes shape.

Our new care home is being developed to provide space, facilities and surroundings designed to support high-quality care for up to 55 residents.

Speaking at the ceremony, Peter Evans said:

“These two stones will sit together as a reminder of where we’ve come from and where we’re going. But ultimately, it’s not the bricks and mortar that make a care home special. It’s the people who live there, the families who visit and the staff who care for them.”

A woman and a man wearing white Salveo Care hard hats and high-visibility vests stand before a stone wall, with the man holding a bucket of mortar.

Looking ahead to a new chapter for care in Wendover

As construction progresses, we’re looking forward to welcoming our first residents to Wendover Manor in January 2027.

Our Show Suite is now open for appointments, giving people the opportunity to learn more about the home and what it will offer.

For us, the ceremony was an opportunity to recognise the history of a site that has served the local community for generations, while looking ahead to the people, families and colleagues who will shape the next chapter of Wendover Manor.
